Having a Capsule Endoscopy Procedure

Having a capsule endoscopy is a simple process that requires no special preparations.

The procedure involves fasting from 11pm the day before procedure, placing a belt and small recording device around your waist the next morning, swallowing the capsule with water and verifying that the recording device on the belt is capturing the signals from the capsule inside your gut. During the time the capsule is recording images of your insides, you should not eat solid food, but can drink clear liquids.

As the capsule travels along your gastrointestinal tract, it silently captures 2-4 pictures per second creating a video of the journey.

You can leave the medical facility to resume your daily activities and be sure to drink water every 30 minutes. From time to time Dr. Nigel asked that you check for a blue-blinking light every 30 minutes on the data recorder to confirm it is working.

After 8 - 10 hours, you can remove the belt and recording device and make sure it gets back to Dr Nigel's team

You don't have to worry about the capsule as it normally passes out in your stools. You DO NOT have to check for capsule in your stools!
